Number Portability in India to be effective from 31 December 2009

TRAI – Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has announced the number portablity fee can not be more than Rs. 19 for change of service providers. The TRAI said the service providers can charge a fee to the tune of Rs. 19 or less for the purpose changing the Number Portablity from one service providers to another.

Now mobile user will be able to change their service providers easily and it is likely to drive more competition from the service providers and likely to benefit the customer as there may be slash in the call charges.

Now with implementation of Number portablity service in India people will not only be able to change the service providers but they can change from one technology to another. In other words if you are using the CDMA mobile you can migrate to GSM Mobile and vice versa. Thus change in service providers the technology is not a constraint.
